Having played to sold-out audiences and rave reviews in Madrid, Basel, Antwerp and Amsterdam, The Life and Death of Marina Abramovic makes its highly-anticipated U.S. premiere next week at the Armory. At the intersection of theater, opera, and visual art, this landmark work is directed by Robert Wilson (Einstein on the Beach) in the Wade Thompson Drill Hall to envelop the audience in the extraordinary life story of the “grandmother of performance art.” Beginning with her difficult childhood in the former Yugoslavia, Marina Abramovic chronicles her ascension to artistic icon status with world-renowned actor Willem Dafoe and original music and songs written and performed by Antony of Antony and the Johnsons.
