#MidnightMoment- Smooth with Rafaël Rozendaal in Times Square this Month

February is for smooching, and Times Square Art Alliance agrees! This month, from 11:57 to Midnight, the Times Square advertising screens will be taken over by lip-locked silhouettes. The video, Much Better Than This by Rafaël Rozendaal, doesn’t just spread love, but it also delves into the whole issue of owning digital and video art. The piece itself is owned by collector Almar van der Krogt, but it lives online at this website, and can be seen and enjoyed by all. (So what does it really mean to own Rozendaal’s piece? Just bragging rights? I think so). Either way, bring your sweetie or your potential future sweetie to Times Square, and let art become life with a series of hot and heavy kisses.

Artist Rafaël Rozendaalgorgeous, color changing silhouette of two faces kissing each other, Much Better Than This, will be shown on Times Square’s electronic billboards from 11:57 pm to midnight each night in February. This project is a part of MidnightMoment, a monthly presentation by The Times Square Advertising Coalition (TSAC) and Times Square Arts.

Rozendaal’s moving image exists online at and has been viewed by tens of millions of people around the world. The work is privately owned by art collector Almar van der Krogt, but will always remain publicly accessible on the web. A work that immediately resonates during the Valentine’s Day season, Much Better Than This uses simple, powerful imagery to connect with viewers regardless of background, nationality, interests, or education.
