Marc Chagall’s Apartment
Marc Chagall has left his mark on New York City – Lincoln Center’s gorgeous Chagall murals are as famous as the Metropolitan Opera itself, and the United Nations building boasts a stained glass piece designed by the artist. Chagall and his wife moved to New York in 1941, fleeing the Nazi occupation of Paris. Together, they lived in the top floor apartment of this Beaux Arts building at 4 East 74th Street, a stones throw from Central Park. They lived here happily until her death in 1944, decorating the apartment like a Paris studio.
The apartment was also home to the king of pop- Michael Jackson rented the entire red brick mansion from 1999-2000.

What do Michael Jackson and Marc Chagall have in common? http://t.co/MNFNCNnz via @artnerdnewyork
Chagall and his wife Bella lived for a few months in the Bronx Cooperative Houses just after they landed in NYC in 1941 escaping the Holocaust. Does anyone have any information on this. It is rarely ever written about. This is significant because these “Co-ops” had many Yiddish speaking “leftist” Jews living there at the time and Chagall felt very comfortable among them.
