Brian Leo “Party’s Over, If You Want It”

The LES is having a big “Opening Night: Art + Fashion” on Sunday, September 8th, 2013. Be sure to check out Brian Leo’s new show “Party’s Over, If You Want It” at S & J Project(s).  Full Disclosure – I’m a fan/collector, picked up my first Leo piece in 2006 in a Williamsburg garage from our friends organizing the Fountain Art Fair.  I like the political nature of his work, this “Hydrofrackers” is spot on with all the insanity going on in the Gas Lands.

Brian Leo, “Party’s Over, If You Want It” will be on display at S & J Project(s), located at 191 Henry St, NYC from September 6th – September 27. The exhibition will open Friday, September 6th from 6–9 pm. A second reception for the artist will take place on Sunday, September 8th from 6 – 8 pm in conjunction with the Lower East Side Opening Night: Art + Fashion.

Artist Brian Leo presents a new body of paintings with a fresh new palette and iconic imagery to identify the social challenges future generations will face. His paintings address global culture, contemporary politics and the American identity. Leo will also revisit silk screening in his work to introduce images of combat drones, cats with dust busters, and portraits of artists: Ai Weiwei and James Franco. In addition, new installations will address challenging themes, including an homage to Obama’s Nobel Peace Prize, Quentin Tarantino’s film Pulp Fiction, Islamic lapidation or stoning, and an N.S.A. cocktail party.

Brian Leo (b. 1976, New Jersey) lives and works in New York City. Recent exhibitions include solo shows at David Kesting Presents in Bushwick, NY and Hana Gallery in Tokyo, Japan. Leo’s work has received critical attention in The New York Times, The Miami New Times, The Korea Times, The Korea Daily, and The Brooklyn Rail. He was included in the 2010 Phillips De Pury auction, Now: Art of the 21st Century.
