“Never Built” A+D Museum Preview Party @ Harvey House

The A+ D Museum is hosting a preview party for their upcoming exhibition, Never Built: Los Angeles, a show that explores the architectural and design inventions that have never (or not yet!) become a reality in Los Angeles. The party will be held Thursday, June 20th, at the glamorous old Harvey House restaurant site at Union Station in downtown Los Angeles. The event will feature models (most likely of the inanimate object type, though fashion models would certainly be a crowd-pleaser), drawings, animations, and a presentation of the upcoming exhibition’s highlights. Small bites from a sampling of DTLA restaurants (Church & State and Fickle are sponsors) and drinks from Angel City Brewery will accent the evening’s festivities, as well as a DJ set from KCRW (89.9) regular Raoul Campos.

Never Built: Los Angeles (July 28, 2013 – September 29, 2013) takes a magnifying glass to the numerous grand projects for public and private spaces which could have transformed both the physical reality and the collective perception of the metropolis over the past several decades. Los Angeles, nicknamed the “sprawling city” way before  “LA LA Land” was a twinkle in a meme’s eye, has presented a challenging set of parameters for architects and city planners which have required ingenuity and resourcefulness. Some ideas have shaped the city, but many other, allegedly just as good or better, have not passed judgement by the metropolis’ infrastructure and institutions. Why?
