Dear Diary: Joan van Barneveld

joanvanbarneveld portrait

Joan van Barneveld is a talented artist/photographer/musician from the Netherlands. We asked him to do a Dear Diary for us because he has this amazing show up at Paul Loya Gallery called Bad Moon Rising which on view through March 25th (go see it today!). van Barneveld is known for creating Invocation 1, a perfect recreation of Kurt Cobain’s Greenhouse from Seattle inside a gallery in 2009.  VIDEO:

His work is not only on view in LA, it is also up in the exhibition ‘Beating around the bush’ at the Bonnefantenmuseum, Maastricht, The Netherlands. Plus, van Barneveld has a studio exhibition followed by a publication at Onomatopee, Eindhoven, The Netherlands up until March 30th.  His Dear Diary is sweet and “compact” and includes a nice artist/european perspective on life in Los Angeles.  Love the picture of him and Paul!

A visit to the Disney store to get the inevitable Tinkebell dress for my daughter Moon.

Dropping by the gallery and checking up with Paul

I meet with with John Divola in Riverside who tells me I should visit the Noah Purifoy site in Joshua tree
