Psychedelic Cartographic Photographic Collage

Artist Adam Harteau is an LA native who has been living in a VW Westfalia across South America with his wife Emily and snuggly new daughter Colette Nova (AKA “the ambassador of love and joy”) since the completion of a Kickstarter campaign in 2012. The family’s journey has been documented on their blog OUROPENROAD and has been featured in The New York Times, Outdoor Magazine, and Surfer Magazine.

Friday October 10, 2014 Slow Culture Gallery in Highland Park presents his first solo show “Terra Incognita”.

“Terra Incognita” literally translates to ‘unknown land’ in latin – it’s a term that’s used in cartography for regions that haven’t been documented. For this show Harteau combined elements from the many lands he’s traveled to create technicolorful psychedelic studies of geometry, nautical charts, ocean currents and topographic form using photography, collage, painting, drawing and mixed media inspired by his time exploring Central and South America.

Adam and his family will be returning to their van in South America on completion of the show and heading on new adventures to Uruguay, Argentina and south to Ushuaia (the southernmost city in the world).

Consider this event a part of your Friday evening to-do’s – artists who are truly living their art are few and far between these days.
