Art Nerd New York | Los Angeles

Lori Zimmer

Lori Zimmer is a New York-based curator, writer and author of The Art of Cardboard and The Art of Spraypaint by Rockport Publishers. A former Chelsea gallery sales director, she founded Art Nerd New York in 2010, which focuses on art history and contemporary art in New York City and beyond (and is the subject of a third book which is very slowly being worked on….). Zimmer began curating pop up exhibitions in 2010, and has exhibited in New York, Miami, Nantucket, Bridgehampton, Philadelphia, Washington DC, and Hamburg, Germany. Her curatorial eye tends to lean toward historical narratives and story telling. She has constructed a miniature gallery of lover’s eyes, a 18th Century shipping shop of messages in a bottle, and a fictional museum documenting the colonization of Africa and the West Indies. In 2016, she curated July’s Midnight Moment with Times Square Arts. In 2017, she curated her first online exhibition,, a reaction to the current administration with 27 works by 22 artists, including essays and news links pertinent to the myriad of violations and oppressions felt since January 20, 2017. Zimmer has served on the committees for charitable organizations such as the Lower East Side Girls Club and AMREF Health Africa in the USA, and in 2015 served on the board of ACT/ART, a partnership with Barack Obama’s White House which sought to engage and mobilize the arts community and build broad public awareness around key administration priorities. Since 2016, Zimmer has worked as an artist liaison for artists’ rights with Kushnirsky Gerber PLLC in Manhattan, where she helps protect artists against copyright infringement. She is currently the public relations assistant for the National Institute of Urban Art in Florida, and is Director of the Logan Hicks Studio in Brooklyn.
