Samuel Rodriguez Has Emerged in San Jose

Bay Area emerging mural artist Samuel Rodriguez has dazzled San Jose with Public and Museum commissions worthy of a day committed to touring them all. In 2013 Rodriguez painted a large mural in the staircase at the San Jose Museum of Art, another on the outside of Empire Seven Studios, and created a large scale installation for MACLA.

Rodriquez creates hybrid portraits of individuals, society, and typography through figurative and abstract moving shapes and lines evoking vibrant color. As both a fine artist and a graffiti artist/street artist Rodriguez cross pollinates mediums with ease. Working with large scale walls, small paper, or site-specific installation, Rodriguez has mastered them all and is quickly moving from emerging to established in the Bay Area and beyond. With commissions all over San Jose, Oakland Museum of California (they had a large mural by Rodriguez in 2013 for their Dia de los Muertos exhibit), and even LA County, Rodriguez fine arts meets street style well know and much loved.

If your a fan of Rodriguez, or think you may be now, be sure to see his work when you can. The new interest Museums seem to have with street art is great, but the downside is they are keeping the ephemeral quality about the street pieces and taking these murals down after a period of time, like the one at the SJMA.
