VIDEO: Vivian Maier, New York’s Best Street Photographer You Never Knew

Photographer Vivian Maier was a modern version of the old famous-when-I’m-dead adage (if you could call it that). Maier worked as a nanny in New York City from the 1950s on, who had a penchant for taking photographs. Over the course of her life (she died in 2009), Maier took over 100,000 glorious street photographs of life in New York City. Her work was only discovered when a stockpile of undeveloped film was auctioned off from a thrift store in Chicago. Sadly, Maier wasn’t identified as the photographer until after her death, but this documentary honors her work and shares her beautiful images.

  1. Nanny life (most of her adult life) was in Chicago. But she’s the best anyway.
