VIDEO: Edward James, Surrealist Patron, Beacon of the Lobster Telephone

Edward James was the most important person- who was NOT an artist- to the Surrealist movement. A British aristocrat who shunned society (they think probably because he was gay and in denial), he was responsible for funding Dali (Mae West lips couch and Lobster telephone were functional furniture in his house!), Giacometti, Magritte, Man Ray….everyone important…then he moved to Mexico, created a Surrealist estate in the jungle, and lived there with 80 birds until he died. ANYWAY- here is a fantastic hour long documentary on James…GET INSPIRED!
