Van Alen’s Spring Party- and Auction of Experiences
Awesome architectural institute, Van Alen (the people who brought you the Match-Maker sculpture in Times Square this past Valentine’s Day) are holding their Spring Party tonight. I’m sure it will be a blast (get tickets here), but what is really special is their online auction. Rather than peddling a bunch of paintings (which is great, but not everyone is into all art), they are auctioning off experiences. Get a home-cooked Milanese dinner with MoMA senior curator Paola Antonelli, a helicopter ride with Iwan Baan (!), and cocktails with Richard Meier. ARCHITECTURE NERDS DREAM!!!! I love this idea, but I’m not surprised that the innovators at Van Alen Institute are offering something different to raise funds. I’ll be there! (Busy night tonight!)
Spring Party on Wednesday, May 21 at The High Line Hotel, celebrating the Institute’s 120-year legacy of innovative projects in the field of architecture and urbanism. Acclaimed Australian synth pop artist White Prism will perform at8pm, with a party to follow with DJ and sound artist Maria Chavez at 9pm.
30 one-of-a-kind experiences around the world, including a home-cooked Milanese dinner with MoMA senior curator Paola Antonelli in New York City; a private tour of the Richard Meier Model Museum with architect Richard Meier and a cocktail at one of his favorite bars in New York; a helicopter ride with renowned architectural photographer Iwan Baan on an upcoming shoot in Chicago, Los Angeles or Paris; breakfast with curator and writer Hans Ulrich Obrist in London, and many more.
