Tier 3 and Basquiat

Like Mudd Club, Tier 3 was a integral part of the late 1970s downtown scene in Manhattan. The No Wave art nightclub was where George Condo first met Basquiat when Condo’s band, The Girls, opened for Basquiat’s band, Gray. The meeting, in 1979, was so awesome that Condo immediately moved to NYC to become an artist.

It became one of the first venues for punk and experimental bands to play, back when no one dared to venture south to TriBeCa. The Slits, Bauhaus, and other legendary late 70s no wave and punk bands debuted there.
