Pier Pressure

Pier 57 in Chelsea has been undergoing major transformations- from a disused warehouse to a center of cultural programming. Eventually, it will be a shipping container mall, park and cafe, but while under construction, the pier will host art installations (like Garson Wu’s which we checked out a few months ago) and now Pier Pressure- a fun collabo of street artists including Icy & Sot. It’s free to check out the installations, as well as relax by the water. The show runs through July.

“Pier Pressure,” will include artists: Subtexture, Sinned, Daniel Patrick, Bruce Wall, RJ Raizk, Depoe, Garrison Buxton, Rrobot, In Pursuit of Magic, Icy and Sot.

To make things extra fun, the pier will be running an Instagram contest (our fave kind) – visitors who follow @P57NYC and instagram their favorite artists using #PierPressure and @P57NYC will get a chance to win a free meal at one of vendors at Pier 57.

Slated to launch in 2015, plans for Pier 57 include a cultural program, a large rooftop public park, several restaurants, flexible retail and entertainment opportunities, and a marketplace built from re-purposed shipping containers totaling approximately 425,000 square feet in addition to more than 100,000 square feet of public space. The Marina at P57 is a temporary shipping container installation within the south end of the pier. Throughout the summer, The Marina will host emerging talent in food, fashion, art and more including Fletcher’s Brooklyn Barbecue, Van Leeuwen Ice Cream, Cold Process Coffee, Takumi Tacos, Soludos Espadrilles and Grey Area. The hours of the Marina is 11AM-8PM Tues-Fri, 9AM-9PM Fri-Sun, closed on Mondays.
