Spring Studios Launches LIFE Photo Exhibition Showcasing Iconic Images of New York From 1940’s To 1970’s

New York, NY (July 5th, 2016) – Spring Studios has announced public access to The Gallery@Spring, which currently has an exhibition featuring more than 50 exceptional fashion photographs from the LIFE Photo Archives from the 1940’s to 1970’s, providing a unique and rare perspective into the history of fashion in the city. The exhibition takes place until August 30th at Spring Studios in TriBeCa, New York City.

Public access times as follows:

July 22-23-24 (Fri-Sat-Sun) – 10am-6pm
July 29-30-31 (Fri-Sat-Sun) – 10am-6pm
Developed in collaboration with Time Inc.’s LIFE Photo Archives, the exhibition features work from three of the four original LIFE photographers — Margaret Bourke-White, Alfred Eisenstaedt and Peter Stackpole – and other seminal photographers such as Yale Joel, Nina Leen and Gordon Parks. The photographs feature iconic fashion as well as fashion icons Audrey Hepburn, Eartha Kitt, Jessica Tandy, Marlon Brando, Gloria Morgan Vanderbilt and Marilyn Monroe. This fascinating collection of photographs includes one of LIFE’s most famous images: Eisenstaedt’s “V.J. Day.”

“We want to celebrate fashion in New York, especially from the time when New York started to set the pace for international fashion, through the images of a New York institution such as LIFE,” says Eleonora Flammini, the Director of Silverlake Photography, who with Javier Sirvent, has curated the exhibition.

“This year marks the 80th anniversary of LIFE and we’re delighted to share a glimpse of our archives with Spring Studios. To see the fashion photography of Gordon Parks, Nina Leen and Gjon Mili presented together at this scale is unprecedented,” said Jill Golden, manager of the LIFE Photo Archives. Many of the images have been produced from the original negatives and are as large as 90”x70”. All printing has been provided by Duggal Visual Solutions. Selected images from the show are also available for editorial licensing via Getty Images http://gtty.im/1ZKUgHJ.

The exhibition will take place in Spring Studios’ galleries from June 16th to August 30th. Several of the prints will be auctioned off in a private event to benefit Art Start, a NYC-based charitable organization connecting at-risk youth to art and artists in order to nurture youth talent.
