dear colby,

i read with great interest your article ‘ OBAMA’s EPA ALLOWS TOXIC NAVY SHIPS TO BE DUMPED IN BANGLADESH’, i really want to follow up on this story, and is curios to know if you do you have any ideas of where the ship is at the moment and do you have any images after the renaming of the ship?

all the best,

Subject: I Dream of Hillary … I Dream of Barack
To: K

Hey Kristen!

I see no reason not to email your friend today. Thanks again for helping me with this… XO

Here are the details:

Last Monday I started “I Dream of Hillary … I Dream of Barack” — two blogs, one collecting dreams people are having about Hillary Clinton, the other featuring dreams about Barack Obama.

They’re strange and revealing! The Barack dreams are really different from the Clinton ones. For example, in two of the Clinton dreams, a pineapple appears. There are no pineapples in the Barack dreams.

My favorite Hillary dream is this:

“I dreamed that I was in Hillary’s small, one-bedroom apartment and she had a little bit of coke left, like a line, and I did it and she got mad at me.”

Next Tuesday, The Chicago Tribune will be running a large piece about the sites. The New Yorker is writing about the sites as a Talk of the Town. New York Magazine is reprinting some of the dreams. Tomorrow I’m speaking to Ireland national radio. The American Prospect and The New Republic have blogged about it.

People are sending in dreams…

I think it would be great if some of the late-night folks could get word of this project. It’s so funny, so weird. It’s the world’s first metaphysical poll on the democratic candidates. We know what Hillary and Barack mean, but what do they MEAN? That’s what we hope to answer.

ever yours,

Hi M. It is great to be back home. Lev and I had a foam bath together and discussed life. The little guy is all for it (life, I mean).
It was great fun last nigh . Shouldn’t have pointed at the limo guy, or at you during that evening on stage (I guess this is even worse than saying no-no-no before every sentence) should have just paid him with my Obama 44$ notes leaving him a big tip.
The evening together was really great. There is something about the fact that it always ends with me flying off that adds something existential or at least classic-movie like to it (Casablanca “we’ll always have New york” kind of ending). I can imagine us two living in NYC and I’m hanging out all the time in your office and finishing N.’s and S.’s food and them having talks with you how I am nice but that it would be better if I came a little less to the offices and minded my own business.
So this short defined time every six month or so makes it real movie like. And like last time, I know I’ll think about it a lot and remember it as the trip’s highlight. It was also so great at the event. I read what the guys wrote and got something: When I’m with you on (or off) stage I know you like me and that you are interested in what I have to say even if I overtalk and most of the times say stuff that isn’t really clear and the knowledge that your ears and brains and mouth will turn this strange blubbering into a surprising conversation that will challenge me and make me see things differently puts me at ease (ease is a relative term, I am aware of that). And it was really the same in dinner too: I feel so easy being sincere with you. Not that I’m such a big liar but with others but with you sincerity doesn’t demand any effort from me. I don’t know if this makes much sense. But that’s what’s nice that also making sense doesn’t seem to be such a must when the two of us hang out together.
Love you and hoping that this feeling you are in now with the work and with life will change. I am actually sure it will. In this cases it sometimes feels as if the discomfort is like an energy that accumulates until when there is enough of it , it will launch you to the next Donkey kong screen of life.
When are you guys intending to come to the holyland?

is trending worldwide. see attached! i am SHOCKED and APPALLED by the right wing tweets I am getting– not hurt, just amazed this whole side of the country is truly actively existing, calling women skanks like it’s somehow a valid argument. I just hope the election is not the soul crushing colossal nightmare it could be. I am scared!

Hi D,

i thought you would enjoy seeing this photo from the White House. I was so proud to
have my son Amir join me when I received the Ford Freedom Award. It was a thrill to
introduce him to the President as “my son the doctor”.

Yours Truly, Kareem
