Magda Love- New Versions, of an Old Me

Tonight, check out the work of Magdalena Marcenaro at the Gowanus Print Lab. You may recognize her work from my previous post about Brooklyn’s Nu Hotel- as one of New York’s few female street artists (I know there are a bunch but not compared to dudes! and she’s talented), she’s got my support.

In the upcoming exhibition Argentine artist Madgalena Marcenaro, aka Magda Love, and native New Yorker Ray Diesnyc invest themselves in exploring the evolution of their personal journeys, inspired by the interpretations of their own everyday life experiences.

Both artists draw inspiration directly from their environments, interactions and relationships. Through the contrast of the simplicity and the chaos of their work, both Magda Love and Ray Diesnyc utilize appropriated imagery taking the viewer from a peaceful and simple moment to a Big Bang of more saturated and intricate composition.

Magda Love toys with popular and religious iconography through experimentation with varying media such as photography, oil pastels, collage, and spray paint.  Her pieces explore beauty, consumerism, romance, and social issues, all connected by a desire to provoke a conversation between different cultures and question the false ideas espoused in an overloaded mass media market. Ray Diesnyc was born in New York City and currently lives in Brooklyn. Diesnyc works predominantly with paint and “is inspired by and focuses thematically on the parodies of his life’s personal interpretations using appropriated imagery.” He enjoys including miscellaneous mediums, materials, and manipulated objects in his work.
