LOVE! by Robert Indiana
I had naively originally thought Robert Indiana’s LOVE sculpture was unique to Philadelphia’s LOVE park. I couldn’t have been more wrong. The original image was designed for the Museum of Modern Art as a Christmas card image in 1964. It was made into a colorless Cor-Ten Steel sculpture in 1970 and was shown in New York. (that sculpture has been on display at the Indianapolis Museum of Art since 1975). Now with many multiple-colored versions around the globe, a red one sits near the Museum of Modern Art.
