Little Free Library in NYC

What a novel idea! (Pun intended)

Starting this summer a few downtown Manhattan sidewalks will become home to Little Free Libraries. The Architectural League of New York partnered with Pen World Voices Festival to bring Little Free Library to NYC. 10 Designers were chosen to put their personal spin on these modern book exchanges. The design had to provide a inhabitable space where the reader could really immerse themselves in the experience.

First up is the Design Collective, StereoTank (Marcelo Ertorteguy and Sara Valente) who’s upside down plastic tank feature allows the books to stay out of the element and the reader the ability to duck under. The tank also had eyes holes that gives the user peeks inside and out.

Little Free Library is scheduled to stay around until September 2013.
