Jonathan Prince G2V
Dag Hammarskjold Plaza (say that three times fast) has become a rotating host of public sculpture, in collaboration with the Parks Department. The latest piece to be unveiled is Jonathan Prince’s massive steel sculpture G2V. The sculpture, which is hosted by Cynthia Reeves Projects, is a mass of oxidized steel outside, with a shiny, foily inside. Personally, I think it looks like a Dairy Queen Butterscotch Dilly Bar with a few chomps out of it, but that’s just me.
Prince does buck the Cor-Ten steel trend of massive rectilinear sheets (like the Rosenthals and Serras of the city) and transforms the industrial material into a smooth shape, which happens to remind me of ice cream. To that, I applaud you (and now have a sweet tooth).
