I’ve been friends with artist Joe Iurato for years, and have been a fan of his iconic stencil wood cuts for even longer. Painted in the palette of blacks, whites and grays, Iurato juxtaposes miniature figures with the urban landscape- which feels like you’ve discovered something magical when you come upon one of his pieces.

Inspired by Iurato’s innate ability to capture movement, Red Bull approached the artist for a special collaboration with their Red Bull Flying Bach dancers for their Washington DC performances. Along with his usual small-scale pieces, Iurato also created three 6 foot pieces that will loom over the Warner Theater in Washington D.C. from January 6-8th during the performances.

Red Bull Flying Bach is a modern adaptation of Johannes Sebastian Bach’s “The Well-Tempered Clavier,” fusing the movement of break dancers with classical music. The innovative project, with select performances paired with Joe Iurato’s works, will tour eight U.S. cities starting December 2nd.
