I’ve been obsessed with Jim Kazanjian’s work for a few years. I first came across one of his “hyper collages” while researching abandoned buildings. It took a minute for me to realize the structure I was intently staring at – a nightmarish Victorian mansion built on a sink hole, next to a cemetery, with staircases leading to nowhere and an oil refinery stack burning on the roof – exists only in his photo. Obsessed.
Jim creates his original black and white photo compositions from high resolution images he sources from the Internet. Each finished piece is comprised of roughly 25-50 images pulled from his library of over 25,000 images. The results are an amalgamate of reality and dream, dread and peace, hope and despair.
