Get Beachy with Martin Parr

I’m really loving this mini-trend of performative artists commissions that I’m seeing recently-first Rob Pruitt’s made-to-order thrift store sculptures at the Public Art Fund gala, then Karen Finley’s “Sext Me if You Can” at the New Museum, and now Aperture’s Portrait Shoot with Martin Parr. In conjunction with Parr’s opening last night of his “Life’s a Beach” exhibition, fans will have the chance to get their very own commission by the photography legend- with themselves in it!

Like the art world version of Sears Portrait Studio, Parr will set up a beach-themed set all day on Saturday, and offer 96 lucky patrons a chance to get their portrait taken, printed in glossy 8×10 and signed by Parr- and even order additional prints for your mom and etc. While you wait, you can sip on beachy Dark and Stormies, because being a little tipsy always helps me relax in front of the camera, too. The price tag? $400 bucks- which is a steal considering you’re getting a special commission from a Magnum photographer. Make sure you don your favorite beach wear- and props are encouraged!

You can claim your slot to get photoed by Parr here.
