Farmhaus Furniture and Housewares GET IT!!

Philadelphia artist, Ben McBrien, of Farmhaus has installed a version of his dream home, an urban beach loft, in Art Star’s back gallery.  The show, titled Farmhaus & Friends features McBrien’s rustic modern furniture and housewares made from reclaimed wood along with contributions by Philly friends that includes bedding, pottery, art and more.  The true stars of the show are an oxidized maple bed frame called the Flophaus Bed for $6,500 and the Crackhaus Table & Bench for $8,000 made from old growth redwood from, yep, a crack house in West Philly.  Because every piece of wood sourced for the projects are reclaimed, they all have a rich history and story behind them.  You can tell that these pieces are made with a deep love for the simple material used to make each piece.  The most interesting details from the original piece of wood, like a knot or crack, is left to shine. No stains are used on the surfaces, just oil, which brings out the natural beauty of the wood.  The pieces are almost soft to the touch and the Crackhaus Bench is designed to cradle your butt and feels more like sitting on a cloud than a piece of redwood.  Both of these pieces are an investment but are incredibly well crafted to last a lifetime and become family heirlooms.  If you are not ready to take the plunge, pick up a hand shaped cherry serving platter, firewood candle block or butterfly necklace.  Though smaller (and more affordable) they are equally as beautiful.
