Dear Diary: Tom Hughes
Our friend Tom Hughes graciously accepted to kick-off our inaugural Dear Diary Seattle edition. Tom documented his whole day. 106 photographs of every aspect of his life from home to studio to family time to work! For our purposes we selected less than 106 photos so you could get an inside glimpse into his current art practice and work-life balance. The images are an honest+interesting portrait of a ‘day in the life of’ Mr. Hughes. Tom has a great show coming at the 4Culture Gallery this July and another show in Amsterdam later this year. The 4Culture exhibit: I Need Nothing: Tom Hughes builds forts! will allow “visitors to go inside and read things and everything!” Be sure to check out his opening on Thursday, July 11th from 6-8pm!!

Right. Feed the dog.

Eating a hard-boiled egg for breakfast with my daughter.

Listening to KEXP.

Cardboard “lumber” I’m making for my Seattle show: I’ll be building a walk in structure with about 1200 feet of this stuff. I cut down found cardboard and hand-build these hollow tubes to screw together into architectural spaces (or something).

Researching exhibition opportunities.

Distracted by old work in the studio.

Making the dog happy is actually pretty easy.

Progress. I’ve been working on these for weeks, and finally got it figured out and done.

Why are you hanging over my shoulder? Back off please.

Preparing to teach drawing class.

25% of the time I get to spend with my wife on a weekday.
