Did you know Buffalo has its own contemporary art fair? The echo Art Fair enters its third year this weekend with artwork from Western New York and beyond.  The two-day event takes place September 7 and 8 at the Buffalo & Erie County Public Library.  echo founder E. Frits Abell says “This year’s fair promises to exceed expectations as we have an amazing space: 25,000 square feet of natural-light filled raw space!”

Some of my favorite artists exhibiting are AJ Fries, Ani Hoover, Felice Koenig, Katherine Sehr, Paula Sciuk, Alberto Rey, Biff Henrich.  The whole Board of Trade & Commerce Gallery artist roster is excellent, specifically calling out Dennis Maher, Joe Bochynski (I’m a collector ;), and Julian Montague!  Read more on the exhibitors here

More info from the Press Release:

The fair will be held at the Buffalo and Erie County Public Library’s Downtown Central Library, a mid-century masterpiece located in the heart of Buffalo’s central core, and will feature more than 100 artists, and a dozen temporary site-specific installations in and around the building. The fair commences on the morning of Friday, September 6 with its signature VVIP event; Burchfield Penney director Anthony Bannon will guide a select group on an exclusive tour of two important private collections, as well as a private tour of the Burchfield Penney’s current exhibits.

That evening, collectors are offered an early buying opportunity at the VIP preview party from 6 to 8 p.m. The $75 VIP ticket not only offers a first-look at the exhibit, but an exclusive opportunity to bid on a silent auction item: a Ken Heyman silver gelatin print “Andy Warhol with Self Portraits”. Social documentarian and artist Nancy J. Parisi will create souvenir Polaroids for guests, who will take home gift bags sponsored by Yelp! and other select companies, as well as subscriptions to Buffalo Spree magazine, echo Art Fair’s media sponsor’s publication.

Following the VIP party, guests and the public are invited to Coup d’état, a dance party infused with visual arts, presented in partnership with Only Comrades.

The fair itself will take place Saturday and Sunday, September 7-8, from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. There is a $5 admission charge on Saturday, and no admission charge on Sunday. A portion of the proceeds will benefit the Buffalo and Erie County Public Library system.

During Saturday’s fair several informational seminars will be offered, such as “Collecting Art: 101 & 102” and a behind-the-scenes offering designed for area artists titled “How to Take Your Fine Art Career to the Next Level”, presented in collaboration with Arts Services Initiative. The feature event will be a Q&A discussion between Paddy Johnson, Chief Editor of New York City- based blog, ArtFCity, and Janne Sirén, the new Director of the Albright-Knox Art Gallery.

Delicious locally sourced food and drink for the VIP party and throughout the weekend will be provided by Nickel City Cheese & Mercantile, Press Juice, Delish!, Arrowhead Spring Vineyards, English Pork Pie and Try-It Distributing.

Additional sponsors for the fair include ArtNerd, Black Rock Kitchen and Bar, Buffalo Niagara Medical Campus, Coolture, Harter Secrest and Emery, Merrill Lynch, Montante Solar, the John R Oishei Foundation, Paragon Advertising, Parent Plan, Schroder Braxton & Vogt, Signature Development, Sinatra & Co Realty, Superior Group, Visit Buffalo Niagara, and Walsh Duffield.

Abell concluded, “We thank our wonderful sponsors and partners–without whom the fair would not be possible–and encourage people to visit the fair. Whether you are a new or a seasoned collector, whether you are looking to invest in fine art, or if you are just looking for a one-of-a- kind piece for your home or office, you will find an incredible array of emerging and established artists from which to choose.”
