Art at Yotel
Hanging out on 42nd Street may not seem like my area of choice, but there’s indulgent futuristic design and art to be had at Yotel. Far enough away from Times Square on 10th Avenue to be totally calm, Yotel meshes space age interiors with rotating art installations, and a huge outdoor terrace that hugs the Midtown skyline (I like to imagine the retro-futurisim of Brave New World while taking in the view while sipping a classic cocktail). The sleek interior of the hotel makes for a gorgeous setting for art installations- including work by Zach Hyman, Lisa Levy and Ian Sklarsky. The hotel also makes great short films to go with each installation, which can also be found in our Obsessions category.
Also worthy of spending a few minutes marveling is the lobby’s Yobot, a luggage moving robot that looks like it’s lifted right from Bjork’s “All is Full of Love” video.
Bonus- the restaurant hosts crazy party brunches every Sunday with premier drag and arty performers like Amanda Lepore. And the food is pretty good too.
