WeHo@30: Art AIDS WeHo

“WeHo@30: Art AIDS WeHo” spotlights the impact of AIDS on art and culture with more than three months of exhibitions, events, installations, and programming. It begins this Friday, June 5 with openings for “Art AIDS America” at the West Hollywood Library and ONE Gallery Museum & Archives, and coincides with the members’ preview for “Tongues Untied” at MOCA at the Pacific Design Center.

The 47 works comprising Art AIDS America at the library and ONE represent a select sneak preview of the groundbreaking retrospective organized by the Tacoma Art Museum Washington that will be the first comprehensive overview/reconsideration of 30 years of art made in response to the AIDS epidemic in the United States (the full show opens in Tacoma in late 2015 before traveling to museums in Georgia and New York in 2016). I’m hoping that you’re interested in covering or reviewing West Hollywood’s advance preview of this important exhibition, and featuring other WeHo@30: Art AIDS WeHo programming over the coming months.

The City of West Hollywood is holding an opening and reception for Art AIDS America at the library from 7-9PM on Friday June 5 (ONE, within easy walking distance, will also be open for viewing). The library event, which includes comments from co-curator Jonathan D. Katz as well as food and beverages, is generously sponsored by the Liberty Hill Foundation and Visit West Hollywood. Are you be able to attend? – you may RSVP directly to me.

As part of special programming on Saturday, June 6 for “A Day of Art & History,” the official public opening of WeHo@30: Art AIDS WeHo, Mr. Katz will also lead an art talk on Art AIDS America at 6PM in the in the City Council Chambers/Public Meeting Room at West Hollywood Public Library. Several exhibition artists will participate as well. Press and public are invited.

Details on special activities and programming for June 5 and 6 are detailed in the release below. Information on all programming for WeHo@30: Art AIDS WeHo, which runs into September, is available at
