Vivian Maier at Merry Karnowsky/KP Projects
Whatever you do, don’t snooze like I have and risk missing the Vivian Maier show at KP Projects/MK Gallery. Over 65 new and existing photographs including modern silver gelatin prints in limited edition of 15, modern color prints, and an exclusive selection of vintage “lifetime” prints are on view until February 27th. The mysterious nanny photographer shot over 100,000 negatives, capturing fly-on-the-wall moments on the streets of New York, Chicago, Los Angeles and far flung places like Bangkok, Beijing and Manila. Her shutter snap timing delivered a whole story in black and white film. Vivian died in 2009 – just 2 years after John Maloof stumbled across her body of work at an auction house in Chicago. Words can’t adequately elaborate on the beauty of the images she produced, so get yourself to the exhibition and then, if you haven’t already, sit yourself down and watch “Finding Vivian Maier“.
