The Branded Arts Building :: LA Shrine to Street Art

Robert Standish
The week I moved to LA I was tipped off by Andrew at Thinkspace Gallery to visit this amazing spot in Culver City: The Branded Arts Complex. Really, some of the best examples of work I’ve seen in person by Shark Toof, Yis “Nosego” Goodwin, Surge, Ekundayo, Robert Standish, handiedan, CASE, Sonata, DABS MYLA, and many, many other great up and coming artists.

DABS MYLA

Shark Toof
Its a project conceived of and managed by Warren Brand, an LA-based entrepreneur and devoted art collector. Reminiscent of the 5 Pointz space in Long Island City, this west coast shrine to graffiti and street art will soon be demo’d by its developers!! Hurry up and see it soon before it’s gone! There are over 25 murals on site so it is very much worth getting out of YOUR CAR and walking around to see the work in greater detail.

Sergio Hernandez aka Surge “Peace Rabbit”…this one has its own print available from the Thinkspace Print shop!

Sonata

handiedan
It would be worthwhile for a wealthy LA arts patron to help preserve some of these murals and place them into some sort of public trust before the building goes down. Even though street art is ephemeral, taking the extra steps to carefully remove + preserve these amazing works would be a huge benefit to any new nonprofit arts space or arts education program. Hopefully someone will show up and help Warren get that part done, who knows maybe LA’s Darth Vader will do it?
