What does the Guggenheim NY and the new Broad in LA have in common?

This morning’s Sky-lit: Volume, Light, and Sound at The Broad was quite the art scene. Broad staff, museum directors, artists, arts patrons and media gathered to see The Broad’s vast, column-free third-floor gallery featuring two temporary art installations. Designed by starchitects, Diller Scofidio + Renfro, the museum is still under construction, slated to open September 20, 2015. This morning’s visitors we able to walk through the columnless third-floor space and listen to DTLA, a 16-channel auditory collage of Grand Ave by Berlin-based artist, BJ Nilsen. Tonight’s guests will experience sound/light/space artist, Yann Novak’s Stillness, light installation which in-part debut in London in 2010, but will be shown in its entirety tonight at the Broad. Both artists were on hand to answers questions from the media about their temporary art x architectural interventions. Read on to see images from this morning and an excellent FB rant from our king of artnerdom, Jerry Saltz.

With a media circus like this there was bound to be some complaints, check out NY-based, Jerry Saltz’s FB rant about the new Broad “…Diller Scafidio + Renfro looks like another one of their art-hating horrendous stage sets…” one of the best comments was “congrats on the new airport…”
