Art Nerd New York | Los Angeles

LAST CHANCE: Tom Fruin & Geoffrey Todd Smith

Culver City is such great little hotbed of contemporary art activity. Earlier this week, I was lucky to catch a bunch of shows all up and down S La Cienega Blvd. Specifically the Tom Fruin at Paul Loya Gallery  & Geoffrey Todd Smith at Luis de Jesus Gallery which close today! Check these exhibitions out before heading off to Beyond Eden this evening!  Its all artnerdworthy, I promise 🙂

You might remember Tom Fruin’s amazing Watertower near the Brooklyn Bridge in DUMBO:

Made from colorful recycled Plexiglas, Fruin’s homage to the iconic New York City icon glitters during the day, and illuminates at night with a light program by Ryan Holsopple.  ‘Locals Only’ is Fruin’s LA solo debut and features many smaller version or maquettes of his forthcoming recycled sculptural projects.

GEOFFREY TODD SMITH’S Secret Lives of Rainbows at Luis de Jesus Gallery is up in the smaller gallery space.  It is really a lovely project room space.  Smith’s paintings almost look like a sticker collage from afar but the thin line work blows you away.  Its as amazing as a James Siena painting!  The Secret Lives of Rainbows is a bright, refreshing abstract show tucked in the mix of the Culver City gallery scene.
