Kenny Scharf #ThrowbackThursday

“The Art Nerd LA Week of Kenny” continues with Kenny Scharf photos from early 1980s for #ThrowbackThursday! Kenny Scharf’s Facebook page is a treasure trove of new and old images featuring Kenny working, painting, hanging out in the 80s and being a legend.  At our studio visit last week we asked his team about these historic photos and they were happy we were so interested, they have boxes and boxes of Scharf archives to share with the world via their FB page (and us!).

We did get a little scoop about this photo.  As you know the Palladium was an epic complex near NYU that was run by Steve Rubell and Ian Schrager. The place had a giant Keith Haring Mural in its neon dance floor for its opening 1985! Keith and Kenny were roommates and friends with Jean-Michel Basquiat and Francesco Clemente so they all made epic murals/rooms for the club.  Kenny said they all attained a lot of success ALL at once hence this complimentary Stephen Sprouse jumpsuit (featured above) he couldn’t remember if this picture was from a magazine photo shoot about the club or what but its awesome these photos and stories are being shared on his Facebook page!
