“LIFE IN THIS OCEAN,” A FOUR-WOMAN SHOW CO-CURATED BY DEIRDRE SULLIVAN-BEEMAN AND KATHY TASLITZ, OPENS AT ANNENBERG COMMUNITY BEACH HOUSE ON SAT., SEPTEMBER 29, 2-4PM

THE EXHIBITION FEATURES WORK BY SULLIVAN-BEEMAN, TASLITZ, DONNA BATES, AND LENA RUSHING, AND ISON VIEW THROUGH JANUARY 6

“Life In This Ocean,” an exhibition featuring the work of four L.A.-based women artists, opens at the Annenberg Community Beach House in Santa Monica this Saturday, September 29 with a reception from 2-4PM.

In their vision for the show, co-curators Deidre Sullivan-Beeman and Kathy Taslitz considered the idea of empowerment for women and girls, exploring universal themes of community and culture though a local, female-centric lens. The figurative work addresses the role of women in our modern world, referencing history and nature to provide context and evoke thought. In this narrative, women are shown dreaming, persevering, and unafraid. Pieces depict subjects who find strength in the face of adversity, sometimes effortlessly, and other times through meaningful struggle.

The artists share an interest in figurative work, paying homage to the multi-faceted landscape of Los Angeles – from edgy urban to serene beach settings – in depicting the feminine experience. The works mostly fall under the rubric of contemporary/pop surrealism, which has its roots in Southern California.

The Annenberg Community Beach House is located at 415 Pacific Coast Highway, Santa Monica, CA 90402 on the west side of Pacific Coast Highway (entrance is off PCH at the Beach House Way traffic light). For more information including parking details: https://www.annenbergbeachhouse.com/
