Hi, my name is Luke Chueh (pronounced ChU). I’m a working artist/designer based out of Los Angeles.
For years I’ve been attending/participating in an up and coming convention known as Designer Con (previously known as Vinyl Toy Network)

This year, I'm releasing a couple new productions. One through Munky King (Self Medicated - Black - a collaboration with artist Jason Freeny)

Since its inception, people have tried labeling “designer toys”. “Urban Vinyl”, “Designer Toys”, “Art Toys”, etc. To be honest I don’t really have any strong feelings about this, but what I like doing is adding a hand embellished element to these products. With the Bear Heads, I’m drawing the face in.

For the “Self Medicated” release, I christened each wall and box with paint. I think these little flourishes bring the collector and step closer to artist.

One thing I’ve learned is that these days, you can never over promote. A couple weeks ago I recorded an episode of Toy Break with George and Ayleen Gaspar to promote my Munky King release.

With a couple days left before the con, a package of Glow In the Dark Bear Heads showed up. Now it’s my job to draw a face on each one.

The Sucklord convinced me to develop a game for his annual Suckathon. The game he designed is inspired by my last toy “Target”. In this game, contestants get to shoot me with a soft bullet gun.

I bought these panda masks so I could hide my shame.  Finally, DKE Toys curated and produced an art show /zine that’ll be up at Designer Con called “99 Deaths of Jar Jar Binks”.

For my contribution I illustrated the gigantic asteroid worm from The Empire Strikes Back eating a speck that is Jar Jar Binks.  I’ll be signing at the Munky King booth at 11am – 1pm, and I’ll be at the Silent Stage booth at 2pm.

And if all that wasn’t enough, Munky King will be debuting my 1000% Possessed. This sculpt was something that we’d be struggling with. Issues with the sculpt and the casting kept us from going forward with it. Finally, we believe that we’ve finally created a version that we can go into full production with.

DESIGNER CON INFO:  I’ll be signing at the Munky King booth at 11am – 1pm, and I’ll be at the Silent Stage booth at 2pm.
