CHG Circa presents Billy Norrby

Our friends at CHG have “The Stone Like” by Billy Norrby opening in the Circa space this weekend .  Billy Norrby is a New York based artist that spent several years working in the video game industry before becoming a full-time painter.  The gaming experience informs his work by way of expansive dystopian landscapes and beautiful fantasy worlds.

Recognized for his complex style and profound imagery, Norrby has created one of his most notable bodies of work, “The Stone Like” which will be unveiled in his first solo exhibition with the gallery. The inhabitants of “The Stone Like” find themselves in a state between gradual petrification and hopeful rejuvenation. As the memories fade, only the blackened metal remains to scar the landscape; a view littered by silent statues, battered and fea- tureless. They represent the last remnants of a half-forgotten, man-made age. Now deeply fused with rock and stone, it is no longer possible to discern whether the subjects were once alive or always part of the earth. Norrby expresses that youth, in body and thought, is the opponent of the long defeat and must never cease giving birth to itself in order to move and grow.
