Artist Talk: Kim West at Hauser Wirth & Schimmel
On a lazy stroll around the DTLA arts district in 2013, I spied Kim West‘s lone polar bear hanging out on the side of an old brick building.
Three years later and that old brick building is now Hauser Wirth & Schimmel. The gallery not only retained the mural on their mill tower, but they commissioned Kim to expand it earlier this year. The mural now extends the length of the east-facing wall. The lone bear now has a lush green forest and pack of wildebeests at his back.
You can find more Kim’s mural work around town. There are two of them not far from Hauser Wirth & Schimmel, near Wurstkuche on East 3rd. The gallery is hosting Kim in an artist talk this Sunday at 11am.
The event is free, but reservations are required. Go here to reserve your space.
