This year’s annual art basel miami beach festivities are endless with several satellite fairs, parties and special events. I’m breaking it down art nerd style so you can catch up with us this week and know where to be on either side of Miami. Here’s the abbreviated art nerd guide to the 2013 Wynwood District Art Fairs, Tuesday night should be the right night to catch almost all of the fairs. CONTEXT is the sister fair to Art Miami dedicated to the development and reinforcement of emerging and mid-career artists, launched in 2012. CONTEXT’s open atmosphere creates a meaningful dialogue between artists, galleries and collectors while providing the ultimate platform for established and emerging galleries to present cutting-edge and emergent talent. Seventy international galleries, vetted by the CONTEXT Selection Committee, exhibit highlights from their gallery programs, solo artist exhibitions and curated projects.

MIAMI PROJECT

The second edition of Miami Project, a contemporary and modern art fair, will return December 3-8, 2013 in Miami’s Midtown Art District. Miami Project will again showcase 65 contemporary and modern art galleries in an exquisite setting. Located at North 1st Avenue & NE 30th Street, Miami Project is ideally situated in the heart of Miami’s Wynwood Arts District and just two blocks from the Rubell Collection. The fair provides attendees with easy access to parking and is a short distance from excellent Midtown accommodations and dining.

PULSE Miami

PULSE Contemporary Art Fair is the leading US art fair dedicated solely to contemporary art.  The fair’s distinctive commitment to the art community and visitor experience makes PULSE unique among art fairs and creates an art market experience that is both dynamic and inviting. The Fair is divided into two sections and is comprised of a mix of established and emerging galleries vetted by a committee of prominent international dealers. The IMPULSE section presents galleries invited by the Committee to present solo project  booths exhibiting emerging work created in the past two years.  One artist featured in the IMPULSE section is awarded the PULSE Prize, which is a cash grant given to the winner artist to help further his career.

  • Rubell Family Collection (95 NW 29th Street, Miami, FL) —  Donald and Mera’s art collection and museum is a must-see, its very much worth the trip!!
  • De la Cruz Collection (23 NE 41st Street, Miami, FL) — This year’s show features some great artists:  Felix Gonzales-Torres, Jacob Kassay, Ana Mendieta, Dana Schutz, and Christopher Wool.
  • The Margulies Warehouse (591 NW 27th St, Miami, FL) — Another important private collection that features shows of Anselm Kiefer, Arte Povera, and Song Dong this year.
