Designer Con, now in its’ 11th year, began as the Vinyl Toy Network, in an 1100 square foot room at the Pasadena Civic Center. The organizers quickly realized that the art behind the vinyl toy movement and many involved with VTN were out of the “vinyl toy” parameters; they wanted people to know that the show included not only vinyl toy companies, but all aspects of design and art including prints, clothing, plush, sculpt, and much more, thus Designer Con was born. In 2013, the event went from one day to two and in 2016, boasts over a whopping 100,000 square feet of art, toys, customs, apparel and more. Adding to the mix, Designer Con adds a venue, The Rose, across the street from the Pasadena Convention Center, for daytime panels and a nighttime party in conjunction with Crewest.
Organizer Ben Gortsky states ““Designer Con is growing and we are excited about the additional items we are tacking on to the show. This year especially we are pleased to offer attendees a VIP pass that will allow them into multiple panels throughout the day and a VIP party in the evening featuring exclusive merchandise, live painting with Secret Walls and live music with world renowned DJ Z-Trip.”
This year’s expanded Designer Con floor features 350 vendors such as Baby Tattoo Publishing, Color Ink Book, Circus Posterus, three Crewest booths, DKE Toy, Kid Robot, Munky King, Pretty in Plastic, Toy Art Gallery, and 150 artists including Ave Rose, Chet Zar, Jeff Victor, Joe Ledbetter, Kelly Johnson, Naoshi, Paul Frank, Paul Kaiju, Tom Neely, Tara McPherson, the Art of Coop, Rizzo Michelle, Heather Rose, and of course much, more!
